The NWSFTCP monitors key nesting beaches for the North West Shelf flatback turtle stock off the Pilbara coast as well as a key foraging site in the Kimberley. These primary monitoring sites are Delambre Island and Thevenard Island; both are monitored for four weeks during the peak of the summer nesting season with briefer hatchlings surveys completed after the incubation period. The NWSFTCP engages with volunteers and local communities to undertake these large-scale monitoring programs. Smaller scale monitoring occurs every winter at a key foraging ground in Yawuru Nagulagun Roebuck Bay Marine Park and at our reference nesting site at Cape Domett in the Kimberley.
